Abstract

One of the problems to solve in the mobile networks is to improve the handover process, in order to reduce its latency and therefore packet loss. The HMIPv6 specifications exhibit possible advantages to reduce packet loss during the handover with the use of the Bi-Cast technique, but they do not establish the way to do it. This article presents a methodology for using multicast tunnels through the IETF RFC4286 specification called Multicast Router Discovery in combination with Fast Handover protocol and HMIPv6-BI solution. Evaluation Results show that thisapproach reduces the handover latency, so thenit could be used to improve the handover process in Mobile IP networks.
