Abstract

The objective of this article was to explore the theoretical and empirical relationships between health and the economy, from the microeconomic and macroeconomic approaches. The review of much of the specialized literature, and the consultation of international and national background, allowed finding empirical studies that demonstrated a bidirectional relationship between health and the economy; also, a considerable number of theoretical and conceptual works was found. An initial conclusion from this work is that the health sector is increasingly well articulated with the economy, through the dynamism of research in health economics and the recognition of their important role
